Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments are usually sent on the first day of each month. But when that day lands on a weekend or federal holiday, payments are issued earlier to avoid delays.
In January, New Year’s Day (January 1) is a federal holiday.
Because of that, SSI payments are typically sent on the last business day of December, which means many recipients see their January payment just days after Christmas.

This early payment is not an extra check. It’s simply your January SSI benefit delivered ahead of schedule.
