September 2026 SNAP Benefits: Payment Dates by State and Maximum Amounts

SNAP benefits for September 2026 will be deposited on different dates depending on the state where you live. Some states issue benefits on one day, while others spread deposits over several weeks based on a household’s case number, last name or other state-assigned identifier.

Knowing your state’s delivery window can help with grocery budgeting. But remember: your exact date is set by your state agency, and a published range does not guarantee when your EBT card will be loaded.

Maximum SNAP benefits in September 2026

For the 48 contiguous states and Washington, D.C., the Fiscal Year 2026 maximum monthly SNAP allotments remain in effect through September 30, 2026. The maximum applies only to households with very low or no net income; many households receive less after income rules are applied.

Household size Maximum monthly SNAP benefit
1 person $298
2 people $546
3 people $785
4 people $994
5 people $1,183
6 people $1,421
7 people $1,571
8 people $1,789
Each additional person Add $218

Benefit limits are higher in Alaska, Hawaii, Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands because their allotment schedules differ from the contiguous-state and D.C. amounts.

How your SNAP payment date is set

States administer SNAP and choose how to distribute benefits each month. Your date may be based on:

  • The last digits of your case number.

  • The last digit of a client ID or Social Security number.

  • The first letter of your last name.

  • An assigned benefit cycle.

Some states load all benefits on a single date. Others stagger deposits to spread out demand at stores and on EBT systems. Check your state SNAP agency for the rule used where you live.

Why your benefit may be lower than the maximum

The chart shows the maximum SNAP allotment, not a guaranteed payment. Your household’s benefit is based on household size, income, allowable deductions, shelter costs and other eligibility factors.

As a general rule, the benefit calculation subtracts about 30% of a household’s net income from the maximum allotment. For example, a four-person household with $1,000 in countable net monthly income could receive about $694 rather than the $994 maximum.

What to do if your SNAP is late

If your September benefit is not available during your expected state window:

  1. Check your EBT balance and your online benefits account.

  2. Review recent letters or messages for a renewal deadline, income-verification request or eligibility change.

  3. Call the EBT customer-service number printed on the back of your card.

  4. Contact your state or local SNAP office through the USDA state directory.

Keep your recertification paperwork and contact information current. A missed renewal or unresolved verification request can delay or stop benefits.
